Juncao Grass | Per Bag Contains 1000 Cuttings

Description

Features

Juncao Grass (Pennisetum purpureum × P. americanum hybrid) is an innovative fodder crop developed for sustainable livestock feeding and environmental protection. Known as “the grass that feeds mushrooms and livestock,” it produces a large biomass, making it ideal for silage, hay, and green chop. Juncao grass improves soil structure, prevents erosion, and helps sequester carbon supporting both agricultural productivity and climate resilience.

Features & Characteristics:

High biomass yield: Produces 250–400 tons of fresh matter per hectare annually.

Drought and flood tolerant: Thrives under diverse climatic conditions.

Rich nutritional content: Excellent source of crude protein (10–14%) for livestock.

Multipurpose use: Suitable for animal feed, mushroom substrate, biogas production, and soil conservation.

Regrows quickly: Can be harvested multiple times a year after planting.

Eco-friendly: Non-invasive and promotes sustainable farming systems.

Applications:

Livestock feeding (cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and rabbits).

Mushroom cultivation substrate.

Silage and hay production.

Soil erosion control and land reclamation.

How to Use:

Prepare the field and plant the cuttings horizontally in moist soil, 50–60 cm apart.

Apply organic manure or fertilizer to promote root establishment.

Harvest the grass at 60–75 days for the first cut and every 45 days thereafter.

Establishment & Planting Guide:

Land Preparation: Clear weeds and plough the land. Cuttings are best planted in furrows.

Planting Material: Ensure cuttings are fresh, have 2-3 nodes each, and are sourced from healthy, disease-free mother plants.

Planting Method:

Spacing: Plant cuttings horizontally in furrows, spaced 40-60 cm apart.

Depth: Cover with 5-10 cm of soil.

Orientation: Ensure at least one node is facing upwards to sprout.

Watering & Fertilization: Water thoroughly after planting. Application of manure or NPK fertilizer at planting encourages vigorous establishment.

First Harvest: Allow the grass to establish for about 2-3 months before the first cut to build a strong root system.

Management & Utilization:

For Fodder: Harvest when the grass is about 1-1.5 meters tall for the best balance of yield and nutritional quality (high protein, low fiber).

For Mushroom Substrate/Biofuel: Allow the grass to grow to full maturity (over 3 meters) before harvesting and drying.

Weeding: Necessary only during the establishment phase; the grass will later form a dense canopy that suppresses weeds.

Target Audience & Ideal Use:

Integrated Farmers: Ideal for farmers who want to synergize livestock, mushroom farming, and soil management.

Dairy & Livestock Farmers: For a reliable source of high-volume, nutritious green fodder.

Mushroom Growers: As a primary, low-cost input for their cultivation medium.

Eco-Project Managers: For land reclamation, erosion control, and biogas projects.

Specifications:

Type: Perennial fodder grass

Form: 1000 cuttings per bag

Protein Content: 10–14%

Harvest Interval: 45–60 days

Adaptability: Tropical and subtropical regions
